Who Am I?

question markSometimes you hear something that hits you right between the eyes.  Today it was a question asked by a spiritual teacher:  Who am I?

At first thought that didn’t seem like a difficult question to answer,  and immediately I began running off in my head all the things I know I am.

I am a wife, mother, grandmother, friend.  I am a weaver.  I am creative. I am a community volunteer.  I am curious which inspires me to ask questions, explore other cultures.  I am a blogger.  I am a reader. I am one who loves Maine, being on the water, eating lobster.

As these images of myself darted across an invisible screen, I suddenly stopped because all those things tell something about me but I’m not sure they tell who I am.  Thus, the real question becomes who exists behind what I want people to see, who is the person hidden behind the descriptive words?

Wow, who am I is a much bigger question than it appears.  I suppose the answer will come as I dig beneath the layers.  I hope I like what is there.

How about you?  Do you know who you are?  If so, you are a lucky one; if not, I invite you to join me on a journey of discovery.

i so appreciate your visit and the comments you leave behind

  1. I’ve been moving too fast to even give this much thought, Linda. Recovering from knee surgery may give me a chance to give it a little thinking time.

  2. I think the deeper part is our main thoughts values, beliefs, purpose, spirituality. I think who we keep close reflects who we are at this moment in life but doesn’t define us. They are our mirror so if that isn’t keeping with who we feel comfortable being we need to change that mirror. We are constantly becoming who we truly are and get closer as the end nears. Just a thought💖

    1. I like your thought! Thinking about who you really are is proving to be quite a challenge for me.

      1. One day at a time and you will find your way!

  3. Linda,

DEFINITELY thought provoking and somewhat ‘uncomfortable’, and I LOVE it!!!

  4. In the bible, John 8:32 says, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” I believe there will be a lifetime of discovery about who you are as you live and study the word of God. To me, it is not who I am but whose I am. That governs the way I think and how I live.
I was talking to a man recently that spent 20 years in prison and he searched to find out the purpose of his life. He read the Koran, teachings about Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity. In the end he felt the bible and Christianity revealed the real truth to him.
Jesus said,” I am the way, the truth and the life.” John 14:6 To get to know someone you have to spend time with them. Seek the words of Christ and He will reveal himself to you.It is a wonderful journey to discovery.

I am God’s child. The rest of who I am is encompassed by that.
