For the entire month of October, the table has been some variation of black and white inspired by this playful table runner from Homegoods.

It was a just right background for some of the pumpkins knitted while I’ve watched hours of football and Astros baseball. All together the runner and the pumpkins made for a happy table ready for the black and whites to follow.

Nothing complicated about this setting that uses white napkins from Walmart, napkin rings from a favorite consignment shop, black plates from IKEA.

Not to be left out are the wine stems that cost all of a dollar each at a thrift store. They are one of my favorite finds because of the shape.

In the Beaufort, South Carolina, area are a number of wonderful consignment shops that have oodles of tempting treasures. I was tickled to find these Pottery Barn plates just in time for them to become part of October tables.

Again, the setting is simple with only a black napkin tied with orange ribbon resting on the white plate.

Another setting had glass accented with black. A little pumpkin sat on each plate and guests appeared delighted to have one to take home.

Around the table black and white napkins were folded as pouches for flatware.

So you see the limited pieces that were used for October tables. The challenge was to come up with a slightly different presentation each time they were used. No, I did not come up with 31 combinations, but it was surprising how a tweak here and there could make a difference. No matter how the table was set the presentation was simple to allow the runner and the pumpkins to be the focal point.

Hmmm, now that October is all but over, I wonder how I can transition into November. The pumpkins just may stay on the table for another month!
