Ring It In!

It’s a gray, rainy day in Houston, and I’m viewing it as clearing the way for a sunnier 2021!

Typically on New Year’s Eve we gather with a group of long time friends at a neighborhood restaurant. As you can guess, that won’t be happening as we are all being Covid cautious. Instead, four of will ring in 2021 at home.

Though we will be few, the evening will be festive at a table set with pieces from another day. All bring forth memories.

The china was passed from my mother and will some day go to a daughter. The pink glasses belonged to the grandmother of a friend who thought I’d use them more than she. The wine glasses were a wedding present which means they have been around for a number of years and only one has broken. The silver pattern is one I picked as a senior in high school in order to receive a teaspoon as a graduation gift from a local jewelry store. That may have been one of the advantages of growing up in a small town.

I found the napkin rings hidden away in a drawer. Not only had I forgotten them, I have no idea from where they came! All the silver looks as though it could do with a little polishing, but I rather relate to its tarnished appearance.

I welcome any opportunity to show off bells from my large collection. For years I’ve collected them, and each one reminds of a place or a person and has its own story.

Tonight when night falls and we are gathered at the table, Google will do its magic and bathe the glass wall in the chosen color. Isn’t it amazing what technology can do to make life more fun?

However you welcome the new year, I wish you good cheer. Stay safe and healthy and I look forward to all that we share in the coming months.
