In Maine, fall is a trickster. Temperatures drop into the 20’s, and sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving there’s going to be a snow teaser giving hint of what is to come. What is crazy is that just as you think you’ve seen the last of warm days comes one of those glorious fall ones that brings everyone outdoors. Such a day took me once again to Beech Hill.

The trek to the top is about a mile on a groomed trail with no tree roots or stones. That makes for a very pleasant walk surrounded by views that have changed with the season.

Gone are summer’s wildflowers, but their dry husks have a special beauty.

Blueberry fields lie fallow with bushes wearing a faded coat of red.

Always the view is fantastic, and the fall light paints it in a very different picture.

On this beautiful day it was no surprise to find Beech Hill crowded.

Some folks were having a picnic while others relaxed in the sun knowing this might be their last chance until spring.

Kids ran free, and some enjoyed a special moment with a parent. I wondered here who was teaching who.

It will be some months before I walk Beech Hill again, and I want to take it all in to create mind pictures for the time when I’m away from this place so dear to my heart. You can be sure this last glimpse of Indian Island will be etched there.
A wonderful trek for sure. A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving I may need to take a ride up along the coast 🙂
