Small Town Fun

Unlike in big cities, small town Maine does not have access to theater, museums, ballet, pro sports, etc., etc., so small towns find ways to create events that emphasize community and are fun for all.

One of my favorites is Damariscotta’s annual Pumpkinfest.

The town’s main street is lined on both sides with pumpkins that are a far cry from ordinary!

No telling how many hours are spent creating each one, and I’m guessing there’s a lot of laughter in the process.

There seem to be no creative restrictions that keep imaginations from running wild.

Understated is definitely not the norm!

It’s hard to pick a favorite, but this guy is perfectly placed in front of the town’s soda fountain.

Oh, how about this family of bears which uses a collection of pumpkins to create a fanciful display that drew a crowd of youngsters.

While fall color is a big draw to Maine this time of year, Pumpkinfest is an added attraction and another wonderful example of how Maine is the way life should be.
