Little Piece of Heaven

Going to Maine is like my favorite fleece: the people and the memories just wrap me up in warmth and it feels like home.

I’m not sure from where I copied those words, but they sum up my feelings about returning to Maine.  Perhaps I wouldn’t love it so much if I were here all the time, but for  five plus months it is my little piece of heaven where all the stresses and concerns of life are diminished.

So, what is it that makes Maine so special?  Well, there are a lot of things, but here are a few of my favorites.

There’s all this and so much more, and during the next few months I invite you to share Maine with me.

i so appreciate your visit and the comments you leave behind

  1. It sure makes me want to visit Maine!

  2. This made me want to go to Maine, and I already live here!

  3. Yeah! You are back. Must get Mary Jo/Michael, Felicia/David and you guys over here for a pizza dinner.

      1. I’ll be getting back to you, Linda.

  4. I always enjoy sharing Maine with you. Hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy it in person some time. Is there a problem at all with bugs there…like mosquitoes or wasps?

    1. This time of year there are black flies which I do my best to avoid. Later, there are some mosquitoes, but they’re not so bad unless you are in the woods. I understand this year ticks are quite a problem so I’m staying out of grasses.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad you are recouperating in your fabulous, fave place! Have a lovely summer, say hello to my cousin, Catherine K, and see you when you return to Houston! Hugs….and thanks for this wonderful post.

    1. We stopped to check in with your cousin on the way up. It was fun seeing her in a different environment.

  6. Your beautiful post brings back special memories of summers in York Beach. Walks to the Nubble for lobster rolls and Brown’s ice cream. Heaven.

  7. Beautiful photos. I enjoy living the Maine life through you each summer. Look forward to your adventures.

    1. It’s always good to have you along.

  8. Love your Maine posts, stories and pictures!!

    1. Thanks, Tina. I like sharing with you.

  9. I must admit, I’ve never actually been to Maine… which is pretty crazy, because I grew up not too far away on the east coast! It’s still a goal of mine to get out there some day, and some day soon!

    1. Maine will be waiting when you decide to come and enjoy all it has to offer.

  10. Your boat is so beautiful! Do you put it in dry storage for the winter? Maine is such wonderful contrast to Houston, I know you love to escape to a totally different climate and environment. I envy the abundance of lobster as we have such a scarcity in the South. Have a wonderful summer,
    Jenna

    1. The boat gets put away for the winter, and tomorrow it’s coming back to the dock.

  11. We went once and have wanted to go back ever since!

    1. Yes, Maine is a magical place that invites you back.

  12. I can imagine your heart fluttering as you cross the state line into Maine. Have a wonderful time this summer….can’t imagine Tini time being more beautiful than from your porch….

    1. Now if the weather would improve so we can enjoy the porch!

  13. You had me at lobster rolls 😉 I remember reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing many moons ago and they holidayed in Maine. Would love to visit but is is SUCH a long way from Sydney!

    1. We will have to visit each other vicariously.

    1. I will eat 2 lobster rolls at a time, one for you, one for me. Hmmm, that might not be good for the waistline.

  17. This makes me nostalgic, having lived for 40 years in CT. Lovely photographs. Such a contrast to South Texas (where I also live now.)

    1. A difference for sure, but I’m happy to be in Texas in the winter.

  18. Ahhhhhhh…coastal living!!! What a beautiful way of life!!!

    1. Maine really is the way life should be.

    Lots of hugs, Carol

  20. So glad you were able to go this summer. I was afraid the rehab would prevent your annual trip. Enjoy every minute of it!!!!!!

    1. It would take something monumental to make me miss being here.

      1. Totally understand that!!!!! Just take care and don’t overdo! Hugs!

  21. Spent many summers at Little Sebago Lake, as a child. Ice cold water from the kitchen pump, sent to pick wild blubs for pancakes. Even an outhouse! Great memories. Love your blog!

  22. Can’t wait to get there myself!
