One of our favorite summer outings is boating to a nearby spot for lunch. It could be Castine or Belfast or Tenant’s Harbor where eating on a waterfront deck is one of life’s little pleasures.
No matter where we go, the joy of sitting under a summer sun and savoring simple but tasty local seafood offerings is a special treat.
Now eating outside is not without its challenges as we are reminded.
Agressive gulls trying to snag a morsel keep a watchful eye on every table. Leaving anything unguarded for even the second it takes to get extra napkins can be very costly!
Sometimes the gulls are challenged by a warrior with a powerful water gun, and watching the battle between the two can be very entertaining. Want to make any bets about which comes out the winner?
Try as it might to get a bite, I’ll not be sharing even the tiniest morsel of my fried clams with any feathered nuisance. On a lucky day, the gull might find a crumb left on the table and it’ll have to be satisfied with that!
i so appreciate your visit and the comments you leave behind
Australian seagulls are accomplished food snatchers.
Nothing is better than boating to lunch at a seaside restaurant!
How right you are!
Love fried oyster and clams alike… Look very appetizing… No wonder the gulls want some too…
We are on the same page when it comes to clams and oysters.
Oh my, this looks so good! I also wouldn’t want to share. 🙂
Oh yum…trade you Vietnamese pho for fried clams and fries? 😉
Would you mind throwing in an avocado smoothie?
Linda, I wouldn’t share that delicious-looking plate with anyone, persons or fowl!
I would love a little bit of that delicious crunch on that plate!
I LOVE fried clams…..and love the young man who is watching out for your food!!
Delicious! Don’t share 🙂
I wouldn’t share either!
Never thought of “water gunning” the gulls! Great idea!
I am green with envy that you are dining on fried clams…they are my favorite food in the world…have to be the full bellied ones, though, not just the strips. Can you tell I grew up in New England!
I’m right there with you and I’ve learned the best places to get them!
Looks YUMMY!!!
