Changing Things Around

Houston living room
Before

Wouldn’t it be nice if every time we got a little tired of our surroundings we could just start over?  Well, I don’t know how it is for you, but for me that’s not a likely possibility.  Over the years, however, I’ve found it very easy to create new looks by changing things around.

Houston houseChange in the living room was accidental and began with these chairs that were in the breakfast room.  They are quite comfortable, but they have been replaced by a higher backed chair that is a little better suited to reading or watching TV.  Destination for the old ones was Craig’s List, but take a look.

Houston houseThe upholstery repeats the colors in the rug and the pattern adds a spark of interest to the solids of the other furniture.  Certainly, that means they are worth keeping and I don’t really want to get rid of them.

Houston houseThe chairs would have been change enough, but once I got started rearranging I found it impossible not to move everything around.  The Philippe Stark piano chairs from the 70’s moved across the room,

Houston house and side tables were swapped or added from another room.

Houston houseMany accessories also found new spots.

Houston houseAbout the only thing that didn’t move was the painting which is perfect just where it is.

The message here?  When you want change, shop your house.  It is surprising what a fresh look can be created by rearranging.  If I were going to add something new, however, I’d look right here.

i so appreciate your visit and the comments you leave behind

  1. Lovely, lovely, lovely living room you have. Dang, you do decorator for a living I suppose? The painting is whoasome!

    1. I’m always glad to see your name here and very much appreciate your visits. No, I am not a decorator but I enjoy putting things together.

  2. isn’t it great to shop the house and create a new look…I love those chairs with that gorgeous rug..and I have always admired your room with such magnificent height!….and then there are those truly beautiful paintings!…Gorgeous room!!!

    1. The chairs were a happy accident. I never thought of using them in the LR and they are great in there.

  3. Isn’t it wonderful to find treasures right under your roof? I love doing that! The chair and rug colors are so perfect together…of course, they must be together. 🙂 Love the new look, the old look, too. But this one is maybe a little more ready for Spring. Aren’t we all?

  4. Love your decorating. I do the same and change curtains from room to room as well as furniture and accents. Sometimes my daughter and I will change furnishings, throw rugs, and such just for a nice change and to shake things up a bit. It can be such fun!!

    1. You sound like a woman after my own heart.

  5. Love your “new room” and the way you re-accessorized! My mother was also excellent in surprising us with a different arrangement somewhere in our house. It was FUN, and I learned not to be afraid to try something different!
Thanks for sharing with us, Lulu.

  6. Looks really lovely, Lulu. The painting is very different, and a conversation piece, I’m sure. 🙂

  7. I can’t believe how well your upholstered chairs look with the carpet. They make the room look more inviting than ever.

  8. You have such beautiful surroundings, I do love your lesson of just give it a try and see what comes. The results are always interesting and work perfectly. Love the art!

  9. How did you get dad to move furniture for the thousandth time? 😉 I like the comfy chairs in the living room. But now I’m curious…where did the funky blue wood ones go, and what do the breakfast room ones look like? You’ll have to send me a pic.

  10. I so wish I could change my furniture sometimes. I do shop my attic though each year since I have a large collection of stuff. I do find though, I have been paring down. Less is more as I get older. I love that painting and the rug.

  11. I love interesting shapes, patterns, textures, and colors so I love the space you created…It is so perfect.

    1. Thank you. I don’t know that my spaces are ever perfect, but I keep trying.

  12. What a great idea! I like your new arrangement!

  13. Love the colors of the room and the chairs really seem to add a brightness to the room. Looks so relaxing!

  14. I do this in my closets too, shop in my closets and find stuff I forgot about . We have the same high ceilings as you. Amazing how clickly they can be filled up! The painting is fascinating~

    1. There is quite a story to the painting which makes me like it all the more. BTW, I’m also a closet shopper.
