Out With the Old

Maine houseTwelve years the hubby has complained about this sofa….too low, the seats not deep enough.  True, it wasn’t the most comfortable but, hey, it was a good piece of furniture and you know how hard it is to replace something that isn’t worn out.

Maine houseSo, after years of procrastinating the hubby insisted it was time for the old one to go, and I can’t say I’m all that sorry.

Maine houseAnother sectional replaces the displaced one. Though it is the same dimensions as the other,  it looks much heftier, sits way better and is much easier for tall people to get up from.  A bonus is that it’s good for napping, at least for the hubby.

Maine houseThe same pillows I made for the outed sofa still work, but what I need is for you seasonal decor experts to come and add your magic.  I’m sure there would be lots of fall color and texture!

Maine HouseI’d like to replace the coffee table, but for now I’m thinking a new paint color would do.  Any suggestions?

At least getting rid of the old was a first step, and it sold on Craig’s List in a matter of minutes.  Someone shorter than us appreciated a very good deal!

i so appreciate your visit and the comments you leave behind

  1. LOVE the sofa!…..and I think you may choose a beautiful “happy” color…from those fabulous pillows!

  2. If this is in Maine by the shore I vote for Orange or Turquoise or a mix of both but then again I Love Color 🙂

  3. As an interior decorator (on the side)…my eye says go for one of the greens in the pillows.

  4. I am all about neutrals these days, so my inclination would be to first prime the table, then paint it a deep sage, then paint it an off white, and sand all edges to reveal the sage underneath.

  5. Hi, Linda! Comfy and stylish, you did well!! Wonderful to find you. And glad to know we have Maine in common 🙂 It would be so fun to meet there. Cheers from DC, Loi

  6. That new sectional looks fabulous.

  7. It looks nice. You guys have much more patience than me. Lol. If I didn’t like it it would be gone in anywhere from 12 hours to 12 days. Enjoy it!!!

    1. My hubby would agree with you. It was I who drug feet.

      1. A lady of refinement with patience. I didn’t know they existed. Lol😀

  8. Love the new sectional! Happy hubby is a bonus for you. 🙂 I like the idea of an orangy-red for the coffee table. With your green walls, it would be great. Enjoy your new napping spot!

  9. Looks like one comfortable buy, Linda! And I love the color!

    1. Comfortable indeed, and I’m hoping the color will stand up once it has been attacked by 3 little boys!😌

  10. A new sofa! You lucky girl!!! PLEASE have your husband to contact my husband and expound upon the virtues of a new, more comfortable sofa!!! Ramon has been draggin’ butt on changing for nearly 10 years now, and I’m over it! I want a new sofa NOW!!!!!!!! Yours looks fabulous. The sectional fits nicely into that area. It made great sense to stick with that style. I really like the color, too. I’m all about versatility!!!

Shirley from Housepitality Designs should be able to throw in a weighty 2 cents on the decor issue. That chick is a wiz at it!

    1. Keep pushing because Ramon would probably like the improvement. Sectional is the only thing that really works in this space.

  11. Nice… Lovely neutral color… Goes with anything…

  12. It’s always fun to redecorate!

  13. Love the sofa! I’d go burnt orange, dark red, or teal/turquoise! Always love your taste, whichever color you pick will be perfect 🙂

Can’t wait to try the new couch! No food crumbs in this one, huh? 🙂

    1. It’s pretty comfy and there’re no crumbs since nobody’s eaten there yet.

  15. ps.. keep that pile of books, and that cute plane still though.. x

  16. Hi Linda.. love your new sofa’s.. enjoy them naps.. there’s a huge range now of chalk paints.. in the most amazing range of colors.. but having said that.. I’d go white.. to match your white window frames.. and then bring in lots of bigger white scatters.. and for the pop of color.. add a collection (at least 3 or 5 … things always work better in odds.. ) blue/white china pieces onto your new white table.. mmm.. what you think?.. xx hugs j

    1. I’ve wanted to try chalk paint and am going to check it out to see if look would work here.

      1. ooh.. keep me posted please.. x hugs j

  17. Be daring and with a deep red!

    1. Love red but it might not work here unless it goes toward orange.

  18. Enjoy your new sofa! As we age, low seating is not good!

  19. It looks beautiful and I am an “orange” girl. Love orange with any color green so I would paint the table a pumpkin orange…but hey, that’s just me 🙂

    1. Love orange and think a red/orange might just work.
