More of the Magic

Matinicus RockAs magical as it was to see hundreds of puffins (more here), they were not alone on Matinicus Rock.  No, there were sea birds galore frolicking on the rocks.

Matinicus RockGulls paraded and comorants spread their wings and basked in the sun.

Matinicus RockDucks swam or warmed themselves on the rocks.

Matinicus RockMy favorite?  The auks which look like little penguins and another bird of which I’d only seen pictures.

Matinicus Rock I’m sure they must fly, but this day they only paraded among the rocks.

Matinicus RockI was so fascinated by the birds that I almost missed this sight.  Look closely.  These are not rocks but seals.

Matinicus Rock

A few dove into the icy cold water,

Matinicus Rockbut on a beautiful warm day, most were content to lay on the sun warmed rocks.

It’s moments like these that make me realize why I love Maine!

i so appreciate your visit and the comments you leave behind

not to destroy the cozy atmosphere created by the commentary, but the seals are lying not laying on the rocks.

    1. So the computer can’t spell!

  2. The seals are stunning, I’ve only ever seen them singly, so that is a special treat. And I know that water is cold, but the colour is perfect!

  3. This had to be a just breathtaking sight, great photos!

  4. I’ve never seen a Puffin and It’s on my bucket list…and just as you think you have found all the seals in the photo, you realise that there are more … disguised as rocks LOL.
    Fabulous photos!

  5. Oh wow!! How wonderful to get to see these birds and animals! Great shots!

  6. Love the pictures. Our bird population, even the shore and wading birds diminish during the summer.

  7. The seals are amazing! I’ve never seen that many sunning together!

  8. What beauty! I just loved the photographs!

Experiences like that fill happy cushions in the heart!

  10. It’s like a North America Galapagos. I wish I were there too!

  11. What an amazing sight!…lovely creatures!

  12. Beautiful moment indeed. I would be happy and content to lay on the rocks too.

I didn’t know you have puffins in Main. I used to be able to draw those cute birds from memory. Thank you for teaching me something new, Lulu. 🙂

  13. Beautiful! Thank you for sharing Maine. I wouldn’t see anything like this, otherwise. 🙂
