For all of us who love dishes, Portugal is tableware heaven!

Handmade and painted in bright colors, the pottery lends itself to creative tablescapes.

Traditional themes include roosters

and quirky animal shapes.

Blue and white is an oft used palette, one that many of you would like.

In addition to handmade pottery, there are wonderful porcelains for which Portugal is also well known.   With so many choices, how does one decide?

As if the dishes are not tempting  enough, there are lovely linens to make us drool.  The naturals with their embroidered accents are appealing,

but the jacquard cloths in beautiful patterns and subtle colors are irresistible.  Which would you choose?

It would be fun to return home with at least one collection of dishes, but the price and cost of shipping make that difficult, so we’ll just have to dream and continue looking for those special buys at thrift shops, garage sales or TJ Maxx!

Thanks for traveling with me today.  Let’s join

  1. Wow! My honeymoon was a European cruise and we had a day in Portugal. Did you ever see Cetubal? Not sure I spelled it right, but those whole town — streets, buildings, everything — was covered in tile! It was incredible. Thanks for sharing — I enjoyed seeing this.

    1. I thought about that, but the prices were a little prohibitive. I was surprised at how expensive these beauties were, but it was fun to look.

  2. Oh, be still my heart! Those dishes are divine! I love the quirky animal and the blue&white ones the most but would be thrilled to have any of them. What a wonderful trip Portugal must be!

  3. You lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky girl!!!!!!!!! I would not be able to resist just rolling around on it all!!!! What magnificent artistry!!! And you say you bought one set of everything for li’l ol’ me??!?!?!?!!! 🙂 Have fun, and I’ll keep dreamin’!!!

  6. Wow, I would be in tablescape heaven! The dishes are beautiful, and the linens are gorgeous. The linens must have been really high cause they would fit in your suitcase. Our dollar is worth so little. In US money, what was the ave cost of a tablecloth?

    1. I bought 2 tablecloths both square, about 60″. One, which was not a great quality, but a typically Portuguese pattern was about $20. The other was a nicer jacquard piece, and it was about $45. I shopped very carefully!
