These are the first words I see each morning when I open the refrigerator door to get the milk for my frother. I don’t know that Henry Miller wrote them for me, but I am glad they are there because sometimes I need a reminder to be aware, even about the things of which I don’t particularly want to be aware. Living each day with eyes wide open, paying attention to the smallest of details, responding with love and appreciation, acknowledging the familiar, learning to see don’t always come easy, but knowing that I am making an effort to be aware is joyful, satisfying, serene, delirious. There’s so much to miss otherwise. Now, if I could only deal with all that of which I am aware!
How about you? Are you aware? Does awareness come hard or easy for you?
i love your thoughts, so jump right in and share yours
I’m with you on being able to handle all the things of which I am aware…not as easy at it may sound!!! I do love life, though, and I look forward to each and every day. Moreover, I look forward to sharing my joy with others each and every day! 🙂
And you joy shows through!
I try to be aware but I am easily distracted. It’s a constant struggle, but definitely worth it.
When you run, you are aware.
I’m not sure I have thoughts before coffee. If I do, they likely make no sense. The meaning of life? For me it was always to serve, to care for others. Fine if you’re a physician, but when that was taken away, I realized sometimes life is simply to be. “Be still and know that I am.”
Sometime I get it, sometimes I don’t pay attention, sometimes I am flat out disobedient! Thanks for the reminder. Most of the time I am missing the huge blessings!
It’s often quite difficult for me, but I try each and every day to be present and aware. I’m lucky because I have good friends who can help.
