My Houston neighborhood is a small town smack dab in the middle of the big city. It is a family friendly community, and no time is that more obvious than July 4.
Thanks to the West U Rotary Club, flags fly in most yards, proudly celebrating our independence.
The big event of the day is the morning bike parade.
The kazoo band gets everyone in the spirit
and all ages line up for the march to the park.
Streets are closed and off we go,
hundreds of residents walking, riding or scooting.
We all end up at the park where there is activity, music and food for everybody.
You know, I can’t think of any place better to be than the good ole USA. Even with all its flaws, we have it so much better than many other parts of the world.
i welcome your thoughts, so jump right in and share yours
How wonderful you have a “small town community” in the middle of a big city! Love the parade! Happy Independence Day to you!
Happy 4th. What a great celebration. Every neighborhood should do this.
The best of all parades, Bonnie.
Oh, this like like so much fun! I live in Galveston and we’re almost neighbors! I’m so glad you popped in to see me today.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉
Just enchanting! Hope you had a wonderful day. Our big celebration was Saturday and a picnic today.
I didn’t have a camera, but one year I saw three little girls all in a row, first a tricycle, a bike with training wheels and a plain bike. Their bikes were all decorated with red, white and blue, even crepe paper woven in the spokes. The kicker? All three were obviously Chinese. Now that’s American for you.
Thanks, Linda, for sharing the photos and comments. July 4th is one of our favorite neighborhood traditions and just as we discussed yesterday, we’ve come a long way baby since I was a little girl swimming at Colonial Pool then your girls doing the same a decade after that! Evan and Kylie may have outgrown the parade and pool but we have wonderful memories from those years, too, and now to have the wonderful, new Colonial Park & Pool for your grandbabies and my nephew (and maybe someday grandchildren) to enjoy along side a million other neighborhood kids! We are blessed to live not only in the good ol’ USA but right in the heart of it in WU!!
I love our small town feel right here in the heart of a big city!
Xo,
Lins
Looks like a grand celebration of the 4th! Thanks for your visit to my blog and leaving a lovely comment.
