Kayaking…..Just Plain Fun

Kayaks are just plain fun.

With a little practice anyone can learn to use one.  A few “how tos” and this seven year old had the technique down.

She was quite proud of her paddling skills.

Kayaking is fun on lakes, rivers or open water.  The coast of Maine has many islands, and kayaks can be a great way to move from mainland to island or among them.

It is not unusual to see them pulled up on shore while kayakers explore the island or enjoy a picnic.

When the fog hangs low over the water, it is likely the kayaks will be stacked and waiting for a better day.

Fun yes, but kayaking is also a great way to exercise.  I’d love to have you join me.

  1. It looks like so much fun. Unfortunately I can’t swim and I am afraid of drowning. I play Words with Friends too!~Ames

  2. Kayaks are just plain…freaky. I also can’t swim very well and am deathly afraid of being upside down under water with a boat attached to me at the hips. Is that crazy? LOL.

    1. A good kayak is very hard to tip over. Once you get the hang of it, kayaking is delightful. Come on, I’ll show you….maybe e en in silence!

      1. I think my terrified screams will break through the silence, Linda. 😉

  3. This alphabet series is right up your alley! 🙂

    1. As a famous, blue furry guy once said: C is for Cookie and that’s good enough for me. 🙂

  4. Looks like fun to do! Beautiful photos..

  5. Great “K” word! Your photos are wonderful–especially the last one.

  6. I’ve only done just a little kayaking. This was a couple times on a Caribbean island going to and from a rock to snorkel.

  7. I’ve never kayaked! We have neighbors I see out & about in theirs in the late evening or early morning when the boat activity is slower. My hubby keeps talking about getting one designed for fishing in/from.

That’s an excellent photo of you & your granddaughter! She appears to have very keen kayaking skills 🙂

    1. With your access to water, you need a kayak. It’s not only fun and good exercise, it’s a great escape!

  8. it looks beautiful. I was just on a business trip in Washington, DC and I was commenting to friends that the place reminded me of Maine! We saw kayakers too! {:-D

  9. That does look like a blast! I’m sure the 7-year-old’s technique would outdo mine easily. 😉

  10. I agree with everyone else…. Kayaking looks like its a lot of fun 🙂 I hope I can try it out one day!

  11. I’ve always wanted to try kayaking. There is a place here in the desert where they teach you how. I really want to try it this fall! It would be nice to actually cross something off my bucket list!

Thanks for a neat post! This got me all enthused!

    Thanks for linking up, too.

    A+

    1. Kayaking in the desert….go for it!
