What’s This About?

On a Houston freeway, there’s a sign proclaiming the end of the world is coming in  2012, and it has generated enough attention to create considerable conversation.  The end of the world has been portrayed on the big screen more times than a few, but where did this come from?
Somewhere I read that, depending on your source, it can be blamed on

1) the Mayan calendar

2) the earth’s magnetic poles

3) impact by an asteroid

4) Nostradamus.

Now, I don’t know about any of that, but it does seem that in the last couple of years an inordinate number of bizarre things have been happening.  There has been an unusual amount of snow, ice and flooding in parts of this country.  There have been three major earthquakes on different parts of the globe.  There have been devastating tsunamis.  There is potential for a nuclear catastrophe in Japan. There is chaos in the Middle East and Libya.  There are shooting rampages that make no sense at all.

Together all these things may not mean the end of the world, but they just may lead to the end of the world as we know it.  So, what does that mean for those of us who inhabit this planet?  Is it possible we need to change the way we live, become more compassionate and nonjudgemental, more loving so that we might live together in peace?

Do you have answers?  Thoughts?  If so, would you please share them?

Hopefully, when 2012 has come and gone, the drama will be no greater than at the turn of the century when we were spooked by thoughts of  Y2K.

i love your comments, so jump right in and share your thoughts

  1. I am sure that the earthly world will end. If the earth dies I die with it; if my body dies it’s as good as the earth dies. Does it matter when the world end? What would we do differently if it ends next month rather than in a decade? Can’t we do it now?

Can I share with you the Versatile Blogger Award right now? 🙂 http://bendedspoon.wordpress.com/2011/03/17/oh-oh-oh-i-am-versatile/

  2. the Bible, in the New Testament Mathew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21 Jesus talks about the signs of the end of the age. Jesus says, In Mark 13 “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It is good to study all the chapters on this subject. Mark 13:5-8 Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you. Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

These scriptures are from the New International Version of the Bible. It is very comforting to know that the God who created the universe and all mankind has a plan and has had from the beginning. He knew mankind would need a redeemer and that savior was his son, Jesus Christ who He sent into the world to redeem it. John 3:16 says , For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” We don’t have to do anything to earn our salvation but believe He is the son of God and took our sins on himself on the cross so that we could have eternal life in heaven when we die and leave this earth. I love the book of John from beginning to end because the good news is explained so beautifully. It is a wonderful feeling of assurance of hope that this life is not the end but only the beginning for eternity and it is a free gift from God( we do not have to earn it) I have just read the entire Bible this year from Genesis to Revelation and it was a wonderful experience to see all the promises of God for myself. I believe that God inspired all the words of the Bible and the truth of His Word will teach us about Him and how He wants us to live.

  3. Well, I don’t really know. I must say, we have a family of friends who are highly educated and from a substantial background that are planning on “going up” in the rapture in 2012. Don’t understand completely since discussions of this sort have taken place for a long time. We, the Wood Family, are prepared to be here on earth for far longer than 2012, but who really knows?

Live each day in the glory and grace, and to the fullest possible for your circumstances.
Think positive: God loves us. What more could we want?
